This past month, May 25th to be exact, I got engaged to my best friend!
It was literally a dream come true.
I knew Kainoa and I were going to get married and I’d been nagging him to propose soon, but I was still caught by surprise.
Kai and I have been together for 6 years. We were both 15 years old when we got together. We’re high school sweethearts! A lot of our friends have been waiting for this moment just as long as I have. They were all so excited for us! But of course, there are some people that like to put the difficulties of marriage into our heads instead of congratulating us.
We know we’re young and we also understand marriage isn’t easy, but we aren’t going to date for a total of 10 years and barely be getting married! The point of dating, at least for Kai and me, is to see if that person is the person we’re going to marry. We don’t like to waste our time.
I was lucky enough to find that person at an extremely young age and be 100% positive that he was the one. This is something people dream and hope for one day, so for us to be able to have a dream come true, why not get married right away?!
Something that makes us different is that we are a couple that serves The Lord. We know that it is going to honor Him by getting married, and that fills us with joy! And because our faith is rooted in God, we depend on Him to take care of us (of course while also putting in our part). We’re both going to work and go to school to make sure we are taken care of, but we understand He will do whatever He wants with out lives.
Whenever we get asked about why we are “rushing” things, we let people know where we stand with that.
Being engaged at 21 is something I always wanted. I wanted to be married young and have a family at a decent age (a story on that another time). It’s not a scary feeling, although it does feel surreal at times and totally unbelievable.
We’re a happy couple. We love each other so much. It’s something we don’t take for granted. Just check out the video for yourself. 🙂
