Summer is just around the corner and wearing makeup is going to be a little irritating. Pretty sure most people would prefer to go makeup free, but sometimes there are special events to attend that require makeup. One of my favorite things during makeup application is adding the highlight! I love to glow! But the downside during summer is that being too glowy can cause one to look sweaty.
For a more subtle and effortless look try going for a tinted moisturizer. If you aren’t a fan of makeup for the summer but still want to have luminous skin, my recommendation would be to use a moisturizer. Whether your skin is dry or oily, the skin still needs to be hydrated. And make sure that you either use a moisturizer with SPF or just sunscreen! These 3 tips are little tricks I’ve learned along the way as a freelance artist and they never fail!
Keeping the skin hydrated is one of the key steps to a healthy, luminous glow. Even adding sunscreen can make your skin look fabulous. A moisturizer that has been a staple for me is the Olay moisturizer with SPF. This can be found in any drugstore along with Ulta Beauty. It’s an affordable price and works just like high end moisturizers. Now, if you are okay with spending a little extra money, try going for MAC Cosmetics studio moisturizer or even their strobe cream. Combining both products will leave the skin so luminous and you’re skin will feel really hydrated as well. If you want a small amount of coverage or just want to even out your skin tone I’d recommend using a tinted moisturizer. Currently, I use the Tarte Amazonian Clay tinted moisturizer and it works like magic!
2. Water Based Products
For someone who is more comfortable with adding foundation then a water based foundation will be perfect. You can also find foundations that are water based, like the Tarte Cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea foundation, Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless, or the Japonesque Luminous foundation at Ulta or Sephora. These types of products can built up and still won’t feel cakey. If you’re on a budget, some great foundations are the Maybelline FitMe and True Match by L’Oreal.
An easier step than foundation is to spot conceal. Spot concealing is extremely easy and allows your skin to breathe completely. All you have to do is add a small amount over any problem area and lightly blend it out. Some concealers that are thin and water based, but are pretty full coverage are: Maybelline FitMe concealer, Too Faced Born This Way concealer, and the Becca Aqua Luminous concealer. These can also be found at Ulta or Sephora.
3. Cream or Liquid Highlight
How could we achieve glowy skin without a highlight, right?! That’s why I saved the best for last! The ultimate tool for luminous skin is a highlight, but sometimes powder highlights sit on top of the skin causing the skin to look a little textured. If you decided that you really want NOTHING on your skin or are doing all 3 of these tricks then you should use a liquid or cream based highlight. Because these products can be blended with your finger, the product will easily melt into the skin and will look like you are glowing from within. My absolute favorite is the Benefit Watts Up!
